Students outclass domestic violence
Some high school students had their say about domestic violence during a moving fashion show on Oct. 14 at the Providence Marriott to raise money for the Women's Center of Rhode Island.
Models from Warwick's John Casablancas Modeling & Career Center sported retro designs from Diva's Palace, Pontiac Mills, Warwick. In between the fashion showings, students gave personal messages. Some 300 guests attended the Straight Talk About Relationships Fashion Show, and helped raise $7,000, which will go to the operating budget of the women's shelter.The near capacity crowd was cause to celebrate for the center's executive director, Kathryn O'Hare."
About a week ago, we only had about 10 respondents. We were worried," she added. "We had been told that attendance was down at events like this one, but I think word-of-mouth worked."
The fashion show was organized and narrated by 1999's Mrs. Rhode Island Sharon McCarthy of Barrington. Channel 12's Karen Adams hosted. Lawyer Michael Chazan and Michael Gianfrancesco, chair of the development committee, helped organize the fashion show and silent auction.
