CHILDREN'S ENRICHMENT PROGRAM SPOTLIGHT
Did you know that each day in the United States more than 4 children die as a result of child abuse? Did you also know that each year an estimated 3.3 million children are exposed to violence against their mother or female caretaker by another family member?
As a part of the Residential Program at the Women's Center, the Children's Enrichment Program is designed to help combat the effects of witnessing such violence. Our Child Advocate, Laura Elson, holds Enrichment Groups for the residents of the shelter which cover topics such as proper parenting skills, communicating feelings, tolerance, bullying, building healthy relationships, self-esteem, problem solving and so much more.
As summer gets underway, Elson is looking for educational and appropriate field trips, camps and activities for the many children residing in our shelter. If you know of any ongoing programs or are interested in inviting the children of the Women's Center to an activity you are hosting, please contact Laura Elson at or 401-861-2761, ext. 145. We are also seeking volunteers to assist with childcare and group work during these busy summer months. If you are interested in volunteering please contact Elson.
