Who We Are: Our History, Our Mission, Our Lifesaving Work and the Difference We Make Together.

Affiliation signing

Established in 1974, the Women’s Center of Rhode Island has continued to provide comprehensive services and hope for a better tomorrow for victims of domestic violence for nearly forty years.

In our mission to end interpersonal violence, we seek to empower all we serve through culturally competent programs that provide safety, shelter and advocacy to victims of domestic violence. We work collaboratively to prevent the occurrence of violence and to educate the community about the dynamics of violence.

Our comprehensive programs and services include shelter, case management, life skills coaching, parenting, counseling, advocacy, referrals and support to help clients access education, employment, health and legal services, protective orders and safe housing. In addition, our hotline services are available 24 hours per day/seven days per week, and we provide educational and community outreach programs.

The Women’s Center is one of six member agencies of the Rhode Island Coalition Against Domestic Violence, and is formally affiliated with Crossroads Rhode Island, the state’s leading provider of services to individuals and families experiencing homelessness. This affiliation enables both organizations to address the connection between domestic violence and homelessness through collaboration.

Our efforts to help survivors heal and move on to self-sufficient lives and our work to educate individuals about domestic violence have become increasingly important in our community.

Last year alone, WCRI provided safety, shelter and services to 245 women and children (including 68 families) experiencing domestic violence, fielded over 2,200 hotline calls from victims of domestic violence and provided educational outreach programs to hundreds of adults and children.

As a non-profit organization, the Women’s Center relies upon the commitment and support of caring and generous donors and community partners to help us make a difference in the lives of the individuals we serve together.
