AGNES G. DOODY, Ph.D.
Professor Emerita

In her more than four decades of undergraduate and graduate level teaching in the Department of Communication Studies at the University of Rhode Island, Dr. Doody has touched the lives of countless students and professors alike. Her unique style of teaching made her memorable, her personality and tenacity make her noteworthy.

She is a woman of firsts. She created the Department of Communication Studies at URI and became the first chairperson of that department. In 1998 she became the first woman to join the Wakefield Rotary and she served as the first woman on the Board of Directors for PierBank (now Washington Trust).

She has received the Outstanding Award for Teaching in the EMBA program, the Outstanding Teacher Award for Undergraduate Teaching and the National Communication Award for Distinguished Teaching.

She set the bar high as a professor and has yet to slow down. Today, Dr. Doody is the President of Arthur Associates, a consulting and training firm with a focus on executive coaching, public speaking training and seminars in negotiation, conflict management and intercultural communication. Her work with Arthur Associates encourages women everywhere to stand strong and firm in their efforts to achieve their goals.

Dr. Doody received her undergraduate degree from Emerson College, and her Master of Arts and Ph.D. from Pennsylvania State University. (back to top)
