Details:
The Teen Summit is going to be both fun and educational. Teens will have the opportunity to listen to all of today's great music and discuss and explore what the lyrics mean to them. Do they feel they are exploitive towards women? Do they feel it pressures and exposes them to violence and sex at a young age? Do they think it encourages violence towards women? The Summit will include performances by Music One with Terrell Osbourne and presentations by Making Connections Leadership Institute teens, the Institute for the Study and Practice of Non-Violence, as well as a SafeDates: Teen Dating Violence Prevention Program presentation by the Violence Prevention Group working with the Women's Center of Rhode Island. Awesome prizes will be distributed for participation.

Entries that are inclusive of all religions and holiday celebrations as well as those that are non-denominational in content will be most favorably considered. Details: The evening will include a showing of Beyond Beats and Rhymes - A groundbreaking documentary film that takes an in-depth look at machismo in rap music and hi-hop culture - where exciting creativity, addictive rhythms and intoxicating beats collide with blatant misogyny, cavalier violence and deeply rooted homophobia. The film will be followed by a Question & Answer Session with the film's director, Byron Hurt.
